Joel Lindpere: “In Estonia we trust”
Estonia took a precious 2-1 at home against Azerbaijan in the second to last match of the year. It was a friendly match, but no doubt it gave an idea of which could be the future of the Baltic side, considering that the coach Tarmo Ruuli drew up many young players and the outcome was excellent.
A real protagonist in this match was Joel Lindpere, at his 84th cap with national team, who scored the winning goal. 32 years old, Lindpere is one of the veteran players in Estonian side and he plays for Chicago Fire, in MLS.
I interviewed him after the match:
Congratulations, Joel: great victory and great goal!
“Thank you. Good job to Italy for the good draw against the strong Germany”.
How did you feel scoring the winning goal tonight?
“It was nice, especially because it was our last home match of 2013. Besides for a team like Estonia every time you win is a very important event”.
Do you think that Estonia can grow in the future?
“Of course. Today we lined up a defense made up young players and we have many young players stepping in. One of them, Liivak, plays in Naples!”
What do you expect from the future?
“Next Tuesday we’ll play our last game of the year against Lichtenstein away and then I’ll have a break, but my contract ends in December in MLS: so I’ll start to figure out everything after the next match”.
Will you stay in MLS?
“I’m not sure, but I’m ready for everything”.
Are you talking with any team?
“A couple of team asked to talk with me, but I want first to end the season. Then I will think about the next one”.
